
Scherzer rounds out a Toronto rotation missing Trey Yesavage, Shane Bieber, and Jose Berrios early on, with the veteran right-hander coming off an inconsistent 2025, posting a 1.29 WHIP and 5.19 ERA over 17 starts (5-5, 82 strikeouts) on the mound.

Ponce converted a strong spring into claiming a rotation spot early in the season with Trey Yesavage, Jose Berrios, and Shane Bieber sidelined. The right-hander captured the KBO League MVP award after posting an impressive 0.94 WHIP and 1.89 ERA to go along with 252 strikeouts over 29 starts (17-1) for the Hanwha Eagles.

Lauer will take the hill at home against the Athletics for manager John Schneider, with the left-hander expected to fill a starting slot with Trey Yesavage, Shane Bieber, and Jose Berrios sidelined to begin the season. The 30-year-old posted a 1.11 WHIP and 3.18 ERA in 28 appearances (9-2, 102 strikeouts) for the Blue Jays during the 2025 season.

Cease will make his regular season debut on the mound for manager John Schneider at home against the Athletics. The right-hander possesses elite swing-and-miss stuff despite providing mixed results on the hill for the San Diego Padres in 2025, racking up 215 strikeouts to go along with a 1.33 WHIP and 4.55 ERA in 32 starts (8-12).

Kasevich batted .290 (9-for-31) with a home run and two stolen bases for the Blue Jays this spring. He has played four minor league seasons and got his first taste of the Triple-A level last year. Kasevich does not offer much in the way of power or speed, but he has shown to be a solid contact hitter with excellent plate discipline. He has slashed .281/.350/.356 with a 110:141 BB:K ratio in 289 minor league games. He'll likely begin the year in Triple-A Buffalo.

Schreck went 3-for-18 in 10 games with the Blue Jays this spring. The 25-year-old made it to Triple-A Buffalo last season where he hit .242 with nine home runs in 58 games. Schreck is likely ticketed for Buffalo to open the 2026 season.

Pinango struggled in the spring, going just 3-for-24 with a home run in 17 games with the Blue Jays. The 24-year-old has had a decent six-year career in the minors, batting .265 with 49 home runs and 81 stolen bases in 637 games. He made it to Triple-A Buffalo for the first time last season and hit .235 with seven home runs in 84 games. Pinango will continue to develop in Buffalo.

Stubbs made his major league debut last season, going 0-for-3 in one game with the Nationals. He went 3-for-10 with the Blue Jays this spring but did strike out six times. He combined to slash .169/.293/.316 across Double-A and Triple-A last season. Stubbs will likely open the year at Triple-A Buffalo.

With Yesavage, Shane Bieber (forearm) and Jose Berrios (elbow) all opening the year on the injured list, Cody Ponce, Max Scherzer and Eric Lauer are expected to round out the rotation alongside Dylan Cease and Kevin Gausman.
