For whatever reason, high society apparently isn't into mixed drinks, but they do exist for the less atmospheric levels below the MC's. She would have otherwise been tutored about the issue as she was about wines, and would have a drink she could name that she could safely sip should the need arise. She prefers an aperitif in all cases, but she has smelled whisky and likes the caramel notes of scotch or bourbon. Something with that spirit might interest her, but something with a clear tasteless spirit like vodka? High alcohol already annoys her nose, so she'd flat out turn such drinks down.

The author has gotten drunk only twice, ever. A high school health teacher played Days of Wine and Roses in class and it traumatized me. I am way too empathic, so it's probably safe to watch and it states all the reasons not to abuse alcohol more eloquently than any preacher or teach ever could.

Of the two times, the first time it happened on vacation while tasting teeny tiny little glasses of craft beer. A lot fewer than you'd think. I'm a cheep date. However, we were in Fresno and the spouse had to drive us back toward Colinga where we were staying, and R.S. the Author had a great idea! I took the time to record myself talking about the unique sensation of being drunk.

YAY! That counts as having "written," whilst tipsy, right? Right?

I do occasionally take a Glencairn whiskey snifter glass up to the office while writing. I drink about a tablespoon, thus I haven't don't the Hemingway you're asking about, yet.
