Follow-up on this #s0Projects from last year.
I bought a replacement battery and installed it, and the player seemed ok. It gave a little warning icon that I assumed was harmless.
But today I pulled it out to give a maintenance recharge, and found it refused to charge at all!
Disassembled, desoldered battery, confirmed it charged fine independently, did some more probing… basically, it seems that the replacement battery I bought has the wrong kind of NTC thermistor in it.
The player refused to charge unless there was at least 40kΩ between BAT- and the temp sensor pin.
Seems odd, that doesn’t appear to match any NTC that I’m familiar with. And interesting that it only checks the NTC while charging, not discharging!
Anyway, I swiftly “adjusted” the setup so now it will charge happily. Who needs temperature safety?
