Good evening Squirrel Fans.

We got a lovely chocolate cake yesterday at Chatsworth, but the clock is ticking as it has fresh cream in it. Thus tonight’s quote seemed eminently appropriate:

“Winder's mind felt even fuzzier than it had done over the past few years, but he was certain about cake. He'd been eating cake, and now there wasn't any. Through the mists he saw it, apparently close but, when he tried to reach it, a long way away.

A certain realization dawned on him.

"Oh," he said.

YES, said Death.

"Not even time to finish my cake?"

NO. THERE IS NO MORE TIME, EVEN FOR CAKE. FOR YOU, THE CAKE IS OVER. YOU HAVE REACHED THE END OF CAKE.”
― Terry Pratchett, Night Watch

Diary of an AuDHD Squirrel. Day 557 , Wednesday 07/05/2025

Wednesday started just after 7am with next doors kids performing their secondary function as the alarm clock for the street!

After breakfast & an episode of ‘Call the Midwife’ over coffee (I’ll be so glad when Mrs S is back at work then I can get my daily news fix!).

Did my chores & a little gardening then we continued our Star Wars fest. Today was ‘Solo’ & ‘Rogue One’

We had one of the ‘up market’ ready meals we got from Chatsworth for tea, Chicken Dijon - very nice!

We finished the day with & episode of ‘Doc Martin’

Final Thoughts.

Seems there is a trip to Costco via the tip tomorrow, the casualties of today’s gardening session need to disposed of as our compost bin is full to the brim!

Good evening Squirrel Fans.

Having been out for lunch today I felt this quote from Hitchhikers was tastefully appropriate:

Bistromathics is the most powerful computational force known to parascience. A major step up from the Infinite Improbability Drive, Bistromathics is a way of understanding the behavior of numbers. Just as Einstein observed that time was not an absolute, but depended on the observer's movement through space, so it was realised that numbers are not absolute, but depend on the observer's movement in restaurants.”
— Douglas Adams, ‘Life, The Universe, and Everything’

Right off to catch & cook some giant ‘roaches in FO76.

Diary of an AuDHD Squirrel. Day 556 , Tuesday 06/05/2025

Tuesday started around 07:30, Mrs S being on her holds this week.

Made breakfast & we watched an episode of ‘Call the Midwife’ with our coffee.

I did my chores & then the we decided to go to Chatsworth for lunch.

The weather was sunny with broken cloud & was moderately warm - about 15ºC so it was a lovely drive across the moors & thru some of the most gorgeous countryside in the UK.

We stopped off at Chatsworth’s garden centre to buy some birthday gifts for my aunt & uncle - they have ended up with his n hers hedgehogs to sit on the edge of their pond.

We got to the cafe at Chatsworth’s farm shop just as they were opening for lunch & so managed to get a really nice seat by the window.
I enjoyed their special of the day - a minted lamb burger with chips & salsa dressing, it has to be said it was delicious!
Mrs S had the beef roast dinner which she enjoyed a lot.

We decided to raid the farm shop itself for goodies to enjoy with a coffee at home, we also picked up some of their superb ‘ready meals’ which are really very nice. So that’s our evening meals for the rest of the week sorted.

After another lovely drive home we settled in to watch a Star Wars fest - Mrs S being inspired by the whole 4th of May thing.

We managed to get thru Eps 1 & 2 today so a decent start.

Final Thoughts.

A decent day, the drive out thru the countryside really cheered me up as did the lovely meal. I guess I will have to count the cost to my waistline next week.

Good evening Squirrel Fans.

Having read that Remorse want to ban county flags in or on the council buildings they now control I felt that this quote was appropriate:

“It's not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren't doing it.”

Diary of an AuDHD Squirrel. Day 555 , Monday 05/05/2025

Monday started quite late for us - around 07:30 as it was a bank holiday.

Made breakfast & did some chores then read awhile while Mrs S did some admin for her mum.

We continued out Indiana Jones fest this afternoon, finishing with the last instalment ‘Dial of Destiny’ while we enjoyed a takeaway for tea.

Final Thoughts.

Not a bad day at all, had a nice chat with one of the Peeps on here who is becoming a firm friend. 😊

I don’t normally wheel out my soapbox in this space but:

I read in the news that Reform are planning to ban county flags in & on the council buildings they control now - good luck trying that in Lancashire you fascist nit wits! While I was born in Liverpool, my family moved just inside the Lancashire border when I was very young & although I’m now a naturalised Yorkshireman I still have strong links with the ‘Red Rose’ county. Lancastrians are unlikely to be impressed with their county flags not flying on town hall flag poles.
It will also be interesting to see if the population of the East Riding of Yorkshire are impressed if their flag is taken down & the folks in Nottinghamshire, who have Robin Hood emblazoned on their county flag, will likely take to these proposals in much the same way they took to having the coal mines closed.

All in all not a good way for Remorse to start their tenure in those town halls they now control.

Good evening Squirrel Fans.

Today has been a day of lots of trials & probably a number of errors … I’m dubious as to wether this has helped me evolve:

“Most species do their own evolving, making it up as they go along, which is the way Nature intended. And this is all very natural and organic and in tune with mysterious cycles of the cosmos, which believes that there's nothing like millions of years of really frustrating trial and error to give a species moral fiber and, in some cases, backbone.”
― Terry Pratchett, Reaper Man

Right I’m done for today …

Diary of an AuDHD Squirrel. Day 554 , Sunday 04/05/2025

Sunday has been a down day.

I woke about 06:30 but couldn’t get into gear to listen to my audio book until Mrs S got up just after 7am.

I went down & made us breakfast then did the dishes & changed the bedding.

I’ve been down all day, the black dog nipping at my ankles & I’m not sure why. Oh the normal triggers have been there but I’m not sure why i haven’t been able to shrug them off like I normally do.

16:00 I can recommend gout as a highly effective way of reducing alcohol consumption.
What I want is my fave cocktail which involves 100ml of sprits mixed with lemonade.
What I end up making is a pint of slightly fizzy mixture of fruit juices because the threat of a major gout flare up and not being able to stand the weight of a cotton sheet on my left foot is a feckin scary thing!

Getting old seems to be one long list of things you can’t do / enjoy anymore.

Tea … boring fecking unimaginative nearly food, washed down with cider because sometimes even the threat of excruciating, mind buggering pain isn’t enough to stop the need to bring a little excitement to one’s life.

Final Thoughts.

Sometimes I wish I liked me, but I don’t.

I have not been able to engage properly on here today, too many things have reminded me of past mistakes & missed opportunities.

Hey ho, day by day til the last day.

Good evening Squirrel Fans.

Having fallen all of 4 foot off a 3 step step ladder & torn my Achilles tendon I can readily agree with Rincewind that heights are fine, it’s the ground that does the damage!

“I'm not going to ride on a magic carpet!" he hissed. "I'm afraid of grounds." "You mean heights," said Conina. "And stop being silly." "I know what I mean! It's the grounds that kill you!"
-- Terry Pratchett, Sourcery

Diary of an AuDHD Squirrel. Day 553 , Saturday 03/05/2025

Saturday started at around 7am when I went downstairs & got breakfast.

Did a couple of chores & then finished ‘Waterloo’ by Bernard Cornwell. I can throughly recommend this for those, like me, who are ‘casual’ historians. Those that like to have a grasp of our history without actually putting in the hours on reading much weightier tomes.
The take away seems to be that Wellington had a fair degree of luck in the run up to the battle & Napoleon had a couple of right muppets working for him in his leadership chain.
That said one cannot but admire the strategies & tactics of the 2 foremost generals of their time!

Gave the coffee machine its regular deep clean - I cheated a little bit & wiped one of the key components rather than washing it, thus saving having to dismantle it further to dry & re-grease it.

Also went wild & hovered the lounge & the hall & the stairs - to misappropriate the quote from LoTR ‘some of those dust mites were my friends!’ 😆

Had doner calzone left overs for lunch - yummy!

Spent the afternoon catching u[ on Mrs S’s cop shows & then we had the 2 instalment of our Indiana Jones fest - ‘Temple of Doom’. I didn’t really get on with this movie the first time I saw it but it is growing on me - it’s weird to have seen Ke Huy Quan the actor who plays ‘Short Round’ be reunited with Harrison Ford the other year!
Also being really quite interested in natural history I’m calling foul on calling the bats flying in the jungle ‘giant vampire bats’! They’re fruit bats!

Final Thoughts.

Overall a good day, not too many triggers & some nice, if naughty, food to help cheer me up.
Also had a few good chats on here today.
