Today I'm cleaning the seeds for Lance-leaved coreopsis / tickseed (Coreopsis lanceolata). This #NativePlant is yellow and drought tolerant.

I've never collected seeds from this particular plant before; instead I bought them.

Now I know that, generally speaking, if seedheads are brown and dried, the seeds can be harvested. You can collect seeds without being a nursery "professional" and they will grow.

For my return to the office I sketched the flowers in the parking lot. I believe they are Tickseed, Coreopsis, a perennial wildflower named for the close resemblance the seeds have to ticks. Beautiful flowers non the less. All parts of the flower are safe for kids and pets. Deer resistant And they attract butterflies

I'll be winter sowing plenty of native perennial seeds, hoping to get more Lance-Leaved Coreopsis/ #Tickseed (Coreopsis lanceolata). Picture from June.

I like #coreopsis because it blooms for a long time, it's drought-tolerant, and its nectar attracts #butterflies and #bees.

The only downfall: it needs a lot of deadheading. It is not low maintenance in that regard.

But it sure is gorgeous, and I need more!
