Learnings from my recent thruhike:

- nothing is truly waterproof, at least not in the backpacking cosmos
- things that failed due to moisture got to them: headphone control buttons, iPhone charging port, touchscreen, headlamp, Opinel knife, piezo igniter of stove
- waterproof socks are pretty much useless
- down does indeed perform much better in lasting exposure to moisture than what you might think - but not forever
- rain skirts work, even in strong winds and cold temps
