One Union, One Contract for Vox Media Union
Stand with the WGAE workers at Vox Media Union, Thrillist Union and The Dodo Union as they demand that Vox Media management voluntarily recognize their merge into one union, under one contract. In January, backed by a collective 90% of their members, Vox Media Union, Thrillist Union and The Dodo Union made a demand to consolidate these three shops under one union and one contract. These WGAE members know they are stronger together and are fighting to unite. Months later, Vox management has made no movement to engage with this request. Instead, Vox management is forcing these unions to undergo a lengthy and costly legal process through the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). There has been an unrelenting stream of layoffs at Vox Media throughout 2023 and into 2024. Vox Media management’s insistence on exhausting time, effort and money to prevent their union employees from self-determination in representation is wasteful and irresponsible. The union workers at these Vox-owned verticals are integrated in all ways but one, siloed unnecessarily under three separate WGAE contracts — in the case for Thrillist and The Dodo, contracts that stipulate lower salary minimums than their Vox Media Union colleagues. It’s time for Vox management to do the right thing and voluntarily recognize this merger without further delay. Please take a minute to show your support for One Union, One Contract by sending a letter to Vox Media CEO Jim Bankoff, urging him to voluntarily recognize the consolidation of Thrillist Union and The Dodo Union into Vox Media Union.
