I just finished shucking the beans from my tiny three sisters garden. These are Kahnawake pole beans. They are gorgeous. I got my first few seeds from a Mohawk seed saver in Six Nations. This is an heirloom Haudenosaunee variety. Hopefully, these will go on to make even more seeds and feed people. #KahnawakeBeans #HeritageVegetables #ThreeSistersGarden #IndigenousFoodSovereignty #Mohawk #SeedSaver #Indigedon #IndigenousMastodon #Beans #PoleBeans #Haudenosaunee
My community garden plot is full of Flint corn, drying beans, sunflowers, winter squash, and volunteer potatoes which I am too lazy to weed out, plus some volunteer poppies which I am too weak to take out. This is my carbohydrate bank for the apocalypse. #threesistersgarden #garden #gardening
A while back, I posted a photo of my three sisters garden. Some dude just told me that since the seeds are a heritage variety developed by Indigenous Peoples, I had to give the seeds to him. And if I didn’t give the seeds to him, my Indigenous culture deserves to go extinct. Yeah, that got him blocked. I had hoped not to encounter this sort of racism on Mastodon, but I guess it’s everywhere. #Racism #Audacity #Indigenous #SeedKeeper #ThreeSistersGarden #Genocide
Miami squash, glass gem corn, and kahnawahe pole beans for my three sisters garden. The seedlings have been growing quickly. I have spaghetti squash growing on the other side of the house where it won’t mess up the seeds for future Miami squash. #SeedSaver #ThreeSistersGarden #Indigenous #SeedKeeper #seedlings #squash #beans #corn
My three sisters garden is planted: Miami squash, glass gem corn, and Kahnawahe pole beans. All these seeds came from Indigenous seed savers. I got the squash and bean seeds in Six Nations. #FoodSovereignty #Indigenous #SeedSaver #ThreeSistersGarden #squash #beans #corn

Air drying pumpkin seeds for my garden next year. I'm gonna try a "three sisters" garden next year. You can read a lot about this type of garden if you Google it. Basically, it comes from the Native Americans who planted corn, squash, and beans all together in a neat little garden symbiosis. Planning begins now.

Really good chapter on this in the book "Braiding Sweetgrass" by Robin Wall Kimmerer.
