How to avoid #thrashing on a #linux workstation (laptop)? Two or three users logged in on virtual consoles, two or three instances of #firefox running, and -- boom, system unresponsive due to #thrashing.
That really should never happen on a workstation. The #Ubuntu #kernel is obviously not optimized for workstations.
I recall a good web page describing different methods of handling this, but I can't find it now.
