That beat for a representative of the Catania ‘upper class’; the director of a private school who would never have the courage to leave his wife and children for a prostitute. Just when nothing seemed able to change, Scilla discovers that she is pregnant with the man she loves and decides to abandon Sicily without telling him anything.
Twenty-year time jump
Now the former prostitute lived in luxury in Milan, with a daughter named Beatrice, completely unaware of her mother’s past and convinced that the wealth in which she had grown up came from an inheritance. It was the sudden death of Scilla that brought her back to Sicily, revealing to her, in addition to the truth about her origins which had always been kept from her, also the great love.
