#ThingsIHaveComeToAccept
That #writing #books will never be my full-time job.
Of the myriad career fantasies I entertained as a child, only one stayed constant: novelist. I assumed that no matter what other vocation I pursued, I'd also write stories. Because I couldn't NOT write stories, any more than I could not breathe.
If I'd been born 20 years earlier, I might've ridden the wave of #80s #feminist #SciFi to success. Instead, digital #publishing and #streaming #media inundated the entertainment market, making it almost impossible for #writers to land an agent, much less live off their creative earnings.
Sometimes that leaves me despondent (especially when I see twaddle get popular). But I can't control the industry, or audience tastes. All I control is my own work. Stories still simmer under my skin.
So by day, I toil in a cubicle. And by night, fed and housed from those labors, I unleash my imagination. The dream was to write books. I've achieved it!
