Just went to a youth board meeting at #NottinghamPlayhouse . I'm still pretty quiet there but it's really nice to be around a bunch of folks from all different backgrounds being passionate about #theatre and the role a theatre building can play for a community, outside of just theatre, when we have function rooms, foyer space, outdoor space etc.

I think the best books on acting make you question the way you express and exist in motion, outside the stage. I am rereading Paper Canoe and had forgotten how much Barba used to influence my sense of physical comedy, which I love to use to just make people laugh. That kind of comedy was also heavily tied up in a previous relationship, which I have suppressed a lot of memories about. So it's really nice that, from re-reading about it, I'm learning to reinhabit.
Went to a production meeting for an (amdram) production of Measure For Measure that I am codirecting next year. I've been asked to focus on physicality, and so am re-reading The Paper Boat by Eugenio Barba. I'm not a natural at physicality but there's something about the way he evokes it that makes so much sense to me. And yet doesn't feel like many theatre people I know have heard of him or Odin Teatret.

From China to Argentina, many works on stage have explored the complex moral conflicts and traumas of wartime child abductions – like the reported kidnapping of Ukrainian children and their forced adoption by Russians

4 plays that dramatize the kidnapping of children during wars

These wartime abductions aren’t specific to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Throughout history, they’ve inflicted trauma on society’s most vulnerable – making them a rich subject matter for the stage.

Thinking a lot about non-linear careers in the arts. How a work/life balance often means you have to sacrifice one aspect of climbing the ladder. How career progression in the arts is seen through the organisations you work with and not through the personal growth you have undertaken.
I guess I‘m really thinking about what’s important for me, especially as I come to the end of a longterm contract that has acted as stability for me. Hmmm.
