Having a lot of fun playing around with #QGIS and the open data sets provided by the Scottish Government.

Went on a fungi walk with a mycologist as part of the Scottish Wild Foods Festival. It was super fun, I learned a lot, and I’m excited to try to learn more about the various species of fungi that live in the woodlands near us.

Here’s a photo of an oyster mushroom growing on a small section of dead wood on an otherwise living tree. Fun fact: oyster mushrooms are carnivorous!

Watching a butterfly flit around outside my window, I’m suddenly overcome with an intense grief. There’s only one butterfly.

I’ve seen it each of the past few days, remarking on its beauty and happy to see it, but today I realize the emptiness surrounding it and feel the weight of a world so depopulated of wildness.
