Macon Blairâs reimagining of "The Toxic Avenger" serves as a primary case study of this phenomenon. Annie Hsh đžđâFinally got to watch 'The Toxic Avenger' last night, now that itâs on streaming, because absolutely nobody would join me back when it was in theatres. I love a solo cinema trip, but the few screenings near me were all at "walk home alone after midnight while being a woman" oâclock. Jokeâs on them, because it was a blast!
It was gory, hilarious, and oddly heartfelt at times. The blend of practical effects, CGI, â80s homage, and modern touches certainly worked. Further proof that you *can* make an edgy, irreverent, ridiculous splatterfest, without tipping into uncomfortable exploitation, while making racist misogynists and corrupt corporate bros the butt of the joke. The movie never takes itself too seriously, but its satire felt solidly on point.
There were some plot changes from the 1984 original, but the cult spirit of Troma was very clearly there. Peter Dinklage, Luisa Guerreiro (who provided the physical in-costume performance behind Toxie), Kevin Bacon, Elijah Wood, and pretty much everyone in front or behind the camera, knew exactly what kind of film they were making and delivered appropriately. Not for everyone, but for sure my cup of tea.

Die Letzte WebsiteHätten Ti West & die South-Park-SchÜpfer nicht lieber dieses Remake von #TheToxicAvenger als Teamarbeit machen kÜnnen? Was die sowohl stilistisch als auch inhaltlich daraus vermutlich gemacht hätten, wäre wohl wirklich im Geiste des #Troma-Kultfilms von 1984 gewesen. Stattdessen gibt's jetzt einen #Film mit der Halbwertszeit eines Halloween-Kostßms fßr ein paar Hollywoodstars, ohne Charme und Schamlosigkeit des Klassikers.
