Day 24: Love Story.

This one was surprisingly easy. Many great romances in 13 years of 600+ East Asian Dramas, but this one came to mind first.
#cDrama #TheTaleOfRose is 38 eps long, time enough to fully develop a rare 30+ love story love story between the FL's brother and her boss. An arc as much about their individual personal growth as their romance

And in a Mastodon-only exclusive, the full clip of imo the most swoonworthy part

My choices for the #chinguchallenge here will often be different from Bsky, as now

Day 3: Favourite Modern Romance

the VERY FIRST Drama that I thought of is one where the best romance arc involves the SECOND leads, and it's an all-time favourite .
in #cDrama #TheTaleOfRose , the romance between the eponymous lead's brother & boss is stunning. Far & away one of the most grounded, realistic, clichรฉ-free romances I've ever watched also sweet and moving. So good I rewatched just their arc

I can't remember the STP in #BusinessProposal at all , must refresh my memory. I only gave the #kDrama 7/10 so even the OTP didn't leave a huge impression on me.

In many East Asian Dramas, STPs can have more creative arcs, because they're not constrained by formulaic expectations for lead pairs. In #kDrama #MissKorea has a great STP and two of my favourites are Mandarin #cDrama #TheTaleOfRose and #twDrama #LoveTimeless I rewatched both FOR their STPs

@dramatea88.wordpress.com Bank on Me is on my PTW and 2 of my all time favourite #cDrama were released in 2024 #TheTaleOfRose and #WillLoveInSpring

Day 25 Favourite Romance of 2024

I agonised over this one for nearly one full femtosecond, before deciding:

Tong Da Wei & Wan Qian as Huang Zhen Hua & Su Geng Sheng in

#CDrama #TheTaleOfRose

realistic characters, nuanced performances, a complex and fraught arc, chef's kiss! ๐Ÿ˜

11/10 for #TheTaleOfRose my 50th completed #CDrama A tale of life, done right. There was romance, but it was not a "Romance" Drama. It was a Drama about life, the good, the bad, the smart, the not so smart. LOTS of personal growth, and (unusually) the State-propaganda was NOT "The Marvellous Might of the Middle Kingdom" but genuinely positive messages, about speaking up for victims of sexual abuse, the importance of organ donation and the like. And these two were just ๐Ÿ˜ ๐Ÿ‘Œ ๐Ÿ˜ โค๏ธ
In episode 36/38 One of the male side characters from #CDrama #TheTaleOfRose nicely summing up its female-centric POV

One common feature of #KDrama I LOATHE is the trope of the mother who is forgiven all simply because of biology. No matter how evil, no matter what she does to whom, how often and for how long, in the end she gets a free pass because of an accident of birth. It's not uncommon in #CDrama either, but less so, and episode 34/38 of #TheTaleOfRose has just delivered the most brutally ruthless and 1000% deserved demolition of that vile trope I've ever seen.

I smell an 11/10 coming

Into episode 33/38 of #CDrama #TheTaleOfRose and it continues to find new ways to give me delightful surprises. From the start, the women have been the ones who think clearly and rationally, and to see that being rewarded in an unexpected way by a VERY unexpected character was a "wow!" moment for me.

Into episode 27/38 in #CDrama #TheTaleOfRose and during what is hands down the most unusual declaration of love I've EVER seen in any Drama, powerful, moving heartfelt and not clichรฉd at all, the female character started crying. Shortly thereafter, so did I.๐Ÿ‘Œ

IF they are the STP, they are unquestionably my number 1 of all time, and the benchmark against which all future STPs will be judged. ๐Ÿ˜ ๐Ÿ˜ ๐Ÿ˜
