He to meet some super babe that his friend promised to him, she to meet her stuffy lawyer fiancée. If you can look past the typical 80s male day dreams of California girls, there are some good laughs and foreseeable but very cute romance to be had here, made real by excellent actors who turn the somewhat clichéd characters into people to actually care about.

PaulJust watched The Sure Thing for the umpteenth time. Mostly because I re-watched It Happened One Night last night and since Sure Thing is a loose re-make it made sense.
Both excellent, both dated with some of-the-age problematic material.
I was surprised how much they had in common. You could see where scenes had been inspired by the earlier film e.g. Gib's essay about eating pizza and Peter's exposition on how to dunk donuts.
