I just finished reading “The Summer War” by Naomi Novik. It’s the story of a girl who in a moment of anger curses her brother that no one would ever love him, and spends her life trying to undo the curse. But like other books by Novik, it has a surface layer that initially hides deeper themes. At only 152 pages, this novella punches well above its weight in terms of complexity, world-building, and storytelling. I read it, engrossed, in a single sitting and felt like I had finished a full-sized novel. Beautifully written. Extra points for some queer content.

Thanks to @gairdeachas for the recommendation.
