If you're on a Medicare Advantage plan (US), the YouTube channel TheMedicareFamily is warning that a lot of those sweet extra (non-required) benefits to those plans are going to go away with the start of calendar year 2025, so if you got a Medicare Advantage plan for, say, dental benefits and you planned on having work done, do it *now*.

She's been hinting about this for a while, and today has come out and said that there's been a change in their reimbursement from CMS, so they're going to be tightening the belts, and shedding plan features they're allowed to, and that she's not allowed to share the details until October 1st.

Note: if you're unfamiliar with this source, she seems to mostly know what she's talking about, she represents an insurance agency that sells Medicare Advantage plans. But you probably won't like her politics much.

@slashdottir Well, *yes*. That is the argument for why it should be illegal for employers to offer health insurance as a so-called bene. Everyone should be able to get affordable health insurance independently of their employer, which is why in the US everyone should be getting their health insurance on the exchanges.

In the same way you don't have to buy the gluten-free milk to get milk without gluten in it, you don't have to comparison shop health plans to find ones that don't have copays or other cost sharing for preventive health care: they're all like that.

The bad news is that "preventive care" is an improper noun, defined by statute as being only a very tiny limited set of actually preventive care.

But it includes your annual physical.

Oh, contraire. I take it you are unfamiliar with the PBM scam? The pharmacy middlemen are *also* engaged in market manipulation that jacks up prescription drug prices.

There's *multiple* extortionate ghoulish industries involved in #theSoCalledUSHealthcareSystem

I don't care about the total, or what you wound up paying, yourself. I don't want to know what you were hospitalized for or any personal medical information. It could be nice to know which hospital and which insurance, but that's not important. Knowing how many days you were in the hospital could also be nice, but not necessary. Just, year, billed, allowed.

Thanks in advance!

Hey, anybody get hospitalized in the Boston area in the last few years while insured? If you still have your EoBs from your insurance that cover your hospitalization, I could use your help.

I'm looking for 2 numbers. There's a line item for smthng like "Hospital facility fee" or "Inpatient hospital stay". There should be several numbers on that line. One will be called the "billed" and one will be the "allowed". Those are the two numbers I want, plus the year.

@johnrossmd Your friendly reminder that #TheSoCalledUSHealthCareSystem - the wedding of health insurance to employment benefits - was founded to suppress worker wages during wartime.

Our system originated quite literally in giving business interests leverage in the market for labor, and they subsequently took it and ran with it. Since then all sorts of profit (and political) motives have brought other interests in like sharks smelling blood in the water.
