Sigh.

*folds hands together under chin and points fingertips at camera*

Listen.

This book is so fucking annoying.

The first actual 300 pages are pretty much a snoozefest. Yes, there is a bit of worldbuilding, we get to know the main characters a bit, but not much happens. Which I wouldn't have minded as much, had the writing not been so cringy. Swear to Snakavik or whatever, say 'thought-cage' one more time and I'll scream. And, on that note, what is up with the hyphenated adjectives? This author uses more hyphenated words in one chapter than most use in their entire career. But then, after 300 pages, suddenly, the pacing picks up and things start to get interesting.

And then at the very very end, it gets good. So good, in fact, that I now have to read the sequel.

It better not be as annoying as this one.

The Mary Sue

Two completely different #fantasy novels for a change. #JohnGwynne and the #Bloodsworn series are highly popular Norse fantasy, #KhadijaAbdallaBajaber is an #Africanfantasy author from Kenya, not that widely known in my area. Both are good; I enjoyed the familiar Norse fantasy in #TheShadowoftheGods and the new-to-me African setting in #TheHouseofRust. The knitting doesn't match either of the books though!
