A definitive date for when Neil Innes wrote this jolly Beatles-meets-Formby number has eluded me, but I've gone for 1996 as that's when it appeared on the Japanese release of The Rutles' album "Archaeology." It was originally left off the international releases, but added years later on the reissue. Unfortunately, Neil Innes often reworked songs from other projects ("The Innes Book of Records," for example), so I can't be completely certain that it was written specifically as a Rutles song for the 1996 recording sessions.
That aside, it's a fun piece with plenty of opportunity to ham it up and throw in some kazoo. The movable version of the C chord is best to use here as shown, since it slides down to B, Bb and A in the "And [C] I've seen [B] ma- [Bb] ny [A] things" line without needing to rearrange your fingers. Anything for a simpler life.
