It’s truly terrible to love a character with the same name as one you absolutely hate from another book. I’m rereading The Radiant Emperor, so I keep on thinking ‘Fuck you, Chaghan, I hate you’, remembering I love Chaghan from The Poppy War trilogy and correcting my thoughts to ‘Fuck you, Chaghan-Temur. Chaghan Suren, you’re innocent and have nothing to do with this’. It doesn’t help both series also share a character named Altan, who I hate in The Radiant Emperor but like/am neutral about in The Poppy War trilogy
hauve finished poppy war!!
it was a struggle cause i just couldnt get into the right headspace for reading instead i spiralled quite a bit but it was such a delight, very raw, i loved poring over the bits and pieces of clues jiang ziya was feeding us,, very yum how i had to put everything together and then had the unfortunate reality of having a war steamroll the plot along, i thought it was going to be a slow drip feed and yea did end up with more questions about jiang bcs i dont quite trust in our current positive state (if you can call it that?) but part two really opened the dam of information which felt deserving but idk wouldve loved to dig and poke and prod for a while longer, really liked the information compilation phase (which is a startling first!)
i like how the characters grappled with war, the justifications, the way they have to reach for medications because just being by themselves got unbearable, related way too much here bcs life has been going shit and bcs every time i opened my mouth for the past two days, i just narrated all sorts of horrors, i dont know how many revisions? revisitations to the past i have to trek until it feels amended enough to be tucked away in one small corner of my brain. also i think im inviting changes, way too many of them, while my current capacity is that of a capsized boat i can barely get into a peaceful enough state to hecking read

To whoever is thinking of starting the trilogy, check the content warnings. Too many people have gone in blind and gotten hit in the face by the fucking train of beautiful shit in the trilogy. Do read it because it's great, but be aware of its contents so you don't end up DNFing it three forths through the first book
