Why The Muslims Of Uttarakhand Are Afraid, Very Afraid

In a meeting with peace activist Harsh Mander on 6 September, Muslims in Uttarakhand expressed deep concern about the relentless targeting of Muslims in the BJP-ruled state and their growing fear of expulsion, loss of livelihood and physical violence. With the state using the language of Hindu fundamentalists, who have forced Muslims to close their shops multiple times this year, the minority community feels increasingly vulnerable to state-sanctioned persecution.
