This #ThursdayFiveList is #TheNewOnes - the last five songs you listened to/purchased. I buy albums in bulk and tell fedi all about it when I do, so here are some highlights I've not shared so much of yet:
Ghost Bath - For It Is A Veil
https://ghostbath.bandcamp.com/track/for-it-is-a-veil
"Casting nets of damaged hair in a sea of bone / Devours with the coming tide, a foaming mouth shrouded inside"
Strong 'the blessing of death comes by water' vibes on this track in particular, and more NWBHM/MDM influenced harmonising guitars than you usually get in DSBM.
Zeal and Ardor - Disease
https://zealandardor.bandcamp.com/track/disease
"What the fuck is going on? I'm catching a disease / We never had to talk about the thing that brings you to your knees"
Manuel Gagneux & co have dispensed with a lot of genre tropes this this album, but it's nonetheless excellent, and I'm currently being earwormed by Disease, a track about the destructive power of well-intentioned helpfulness.
God is an Astronaut - Realms (feat. Jo Quail)
https://god-is-an-astronaut.bandcamp.com/track/realms-feat-jo-quail
I'm not entirely sure about the new album as a coherent entity, need to give it a few more listens, but I love the collaborations with cellist Jo Quail.
Bloody Keep - シダレヤナギ
https://grimestone.bandcamp.com/track/--4
Aggressively lo-fi black metal from Abysmal Specter. Incidentally, read this interview and tell me that this isn't the perkiest person in modern black metal: http://www.soundinthesignals.com/2023/01/abysmal-specter-sound-in-signals.html
Zetra - Starfall (feat. Svalbard & Serena Cherry)
https://wearezetra.bandcamp.com/track/starfall-feat-svalbard-serena-cherry
UK synthpop/gothic metal outfit Zetra's debut is frankly delightful, and Serena Cherry's harsh vocal guest spot on this track is a lovely counterpoint to Adam and Jordan's dreamy clean vocal style.
(Yo, @ohellofedefo these are support for Zeal and Ardor)
