For #PresidentsDay , these quotes from #FranklinDRoosevelt (1933-1945) seem to be most applicable today:

#FDR was the first U.S. President to be inaugurated in the month of January (originally it was in March), and the last quote is from that inauguration speech.

刷洋抖日常看两小儿辩日，这次的议题是「#罗斯福新政（#FDR 的 #TheNewDeal）到底有没有结束美国1930s的经济大萧条

我记得我上学时的课本里对罗斯福新政给出了极高正面评价的，但毕竟丝国是共产主义，对这种社会主义性质的政策给出正面评价算是政治宣传的一部分。
洋抖上的观点，正方认为要不是新政将社会福利机制引入资本主义、让美国走上转型福利国家的路径，美国资本主义早就玩球了；反方则认为部分论文的观点说新政没起到什么效果，真正结束了美国大萧条的是1941年美国加入二战，但他引用了一个非常恶臭的极右网红观点，使得他前面所有给出的文献都让我觉得不可信了

我去搜了下wikipedia、CrashCourse、TED-Ed这些入门材料，发现它们对新政的观念都是明显正面的，并且普遍提到了新政立竿见影地降低了工人失业率；同时也都认为尽管新政帮助维持了大萧条时期的民生，大萧条确实是因为参与二战的全国动员而结束的。

But they won't, because actually achieving their policy goals means destabilizing the economic status quo. Reforms (like #FDR and #theNewDeal) only come at the very last minute (or they don't, and we get fascism like what happened in the #WeimarRepublic ).
