Michael Ansara. The ever-debonair Mr. Howard finds himself acting as an official U.S. observer in a war-torn nation after a military coup. You never know what sort of story this show will deliver, but it’s usually very smart. Such is definitely the case here. Anne Baxter is terrific fun as a terrible actress. Baxter played the same character in an earlier episode. 9/10

Lee Meriwether, Yvonne De Carlo. A self-consciously quirky episode. A reclusive multi-millionaire dies, leaving several mysteries: Where did he live? Was he married? Where did all his money go? The mysteries are good, and you genuinely don’t know where the story is going, but the stylistic storytelling grows annoying long before the closing credits. Which is a shame because the resolution is smart and satisfying. 6/10

Van Johnson, Celeste Holm. Dan Farrell (Robert Stack) investigates corruption in the world of boxing. The focus is largely on his friendship with a young boxer named Paco, who is at the mercy of mercenary forces he doesn’t comprehend. Once again, the show convincingly portrays the halls of power (big business and big money). It really feels like we are inside boardrooms where deals are made that can, in a split second, destroy a person’s dreams/life. The crime/mobster aspect is kept to the background; this script is more about how easy it is to double-cross someone who trusts you when a lot of money is at stake. Given the lack of action, it is surprisingly engaging and the movie-length runtime positively flies by. 8/10

Ina Balin, Nico Minardos. This one makes extensive use of location filming and it looks spectacular. Holidaying in Greece, Glenn Howard meets a mysterious woman and accepts her invitation to visit a remote island. He learns that her feminist ideas have defied tradition in her strictly-patriarchal island community and soon they are both fleeing for the lives across mountainous terrain. At night. With knife-wielding man (the son of the village elder) on their trail. It’s actually a basic story but it is well told. At a leisurely pace. Quite a lot of build-up before we find out what is going on. It probably could have been done in one-hour, but Balin and Gene Barry carry it with aplomb. Some of the physical stuff they do in the final half-hour is impressive. Peggy Maxwell (Susan Saint James) only appears in the framing sequence scenes, as Glenn relates the adventure to her after the fact. 7/10

#TheNameOfTheGame s2e13 (1969) - 9/10

1️⃣ For a lot of the runtime, it feels disjointed, but everything ties together at the very end with a very strong twist ending. One I did not see coming.

2️⃣ It's an episode that starts off as one thing—Jeff investigating a millionaire businessman—and morphs into something else—the disappearance of a 7-year-old girl in the mountains.

3️⃣ The focus is on the media circus that pops up around the story, as well as the undesirables who join in the search >>>

Some #ClassicTV for a Saturday evening. A season 2 episode of #TheNameOfTheGame starring #TonyFranciosa and #SusanSaintJames. Still stands as one of the coolest TV shows I’ve ever seen.
