I’d give The Match (2025) a 4/5. It’s a really well-acted sports drama that focuses more on the relationship between the characters than on flashy competition. The story about the rivalry between Go master Cho Hun-hyun and his student Lee Chang-ho is surprisingly engaging, even if you don’t know much about the game. Lee Byung-hun is excellent and carries a lot of the emotional weight of the film. The mentor-turned-rival dynamic feels natural and adds real tension as the story progresses. Update: I've seen the film! It was so exciting to finally watch it. As I said before, this isn't a Queen's Gambit moment for Go, but it's fun to watch a film about Go and if by any chance it makes a few people try the game, it's worth it.
