I've been replaying The Long Dark from the start after the final chapter was released and I only just realised.
It's a great game but ye gods you have to pace yourself as cold exposure is no joke and you will die.
Stunning game with a neat painterly style that I just love and crunching through the snow really helped offset playing in the recent heatwave that we had.
Recently I've been playing #balatro and the single player campaign in #TheLongDark, so I haven't been posting recaps from my #TheLongDark survival mode play through,.. I may come back to it eventually, but needed a change of pace for now.
Today in #TheLongDark I decided to explore around the farmhouse. I was able to find a rifle, some bullets and a deer carcass. The rifle will be especially handy since I left my other rifle in my safehouse in Coastal Highway, and there are cougars and bears about in this region.
On the way home, I ran into a blizzard, which lasted for longer that I would have liked. I had to limp back home in darkness after it ended with a wolf on my tail.
Today in #TheLongDark I explored the Farmhouse in Pleasant Valley. As expected it was full of loot. I also appreciated that it has a large stove and a workbench, which makes it a better HQ than the Community Hall in Thompson's crossing.
I need to decide whether or not I should go through the trouble of moving all my gear to this house, or if I should just maintain two safe houses in this region.
Lots more exploring left to do in this area, so I may just keep both.
Today in #TheLongDark, I spent some more time exploring Pleasant Valley, concentrating on some caves near the community hall safe house that I setup. Didn't find much of anything, so it was kind of boring. At one point I did get a bit too close to the cougar territory, and I thought I heard some new sounds.... which made me quickly change course and head back home.
I'm feeling like I need a bit of a change of pace, so I may play through the single player episodes for a while.
This Prepper Cache is pretty spooky during an aurora.
I decided to explore the ice cave near Lonely Cave. I found the remnants of a campfire, a backpack and a sleeping bag as soon as I climbed down the rope.
As I was checking that stuff out, a wolf showed up from the tunnel. Luckily I was still carrying my revolver, I hit it once and it ran back to the tunnel. I followed it and when it turned back to attack me, I took it down with a second shot.
I say "cheated" because technically you could only walk down that slope. But with the Jump mod, you can actually go up.
I reckon, in real life, it should be totally possible to climb that, so in my head it's not really cheating ๐
๐๏ธ Day 106
๐ฅพ I temporarily left Milton and headed to Hushed River Valley. Once I got there, I "cheated" my way up the slope and explored the SE part of the map.
๐ Near the Lonely Cave I stumbled upon a Prepper Cache and settled there. The loot was plentiful. Lots of food, one revolver, one rifle and several boxes of ammunition for both.
๐ I will start carrying back some stuff to Mountain Town before continuing my exploration of HRV.
