I’ve been off watching samurai films again. This time the American (!) produced The Last Samurai.
I really like this film, despite the Dances With Wolves template. Ken Watanabe and Hiroyuki Sanada are really good. This was probably the first time I noticed Sanada, but now I realise he’s in all sorts of things.
Also there’s a ninja fight in the middle of the film that’s totally great.

Today 20 years ago, I went to the movie theatre with a date I met irl one or two weeks beforehand. We choose The last samurai. Although we did not find the movie to be 'bad', I had more negative stuff to say about it than he did. Something about montage mistakes, probably... Nevertheless, we've been together ever since.
