DIAL 1 - 1979

A great compilation for tonight’s #JonsCookingMusic (fishcakes) from Rocket. An early pre-signing outing for The Lambrettas with Go Steady, and the great Sure Fire by The Act. I guess you could call this a loosely Mod Revival compilation, with Rocket jumping firmly on the bandwagon, but there are punk influences here too. Rocket just threw the net out and advertised for local bands to phone 4992139 (hence the name of the album, of course).

It’s a great snapshot of indie local music in the late 70s.

평양

Merci !

"Living For Today" - The Lambrettas

The Lambrettas are an English mod revival band, formed in Brighton 1979. Named after the iconic Italian Lambretta scooter popular among Mods. Their original line-up consisted of Jez Bird (singer/guitarist), Doug Sanders (guitarist/vocalist), Mark Ellis (bassist) and Paul Wincer (drummer).

Their biggest hit was in 1980, with a cover version of the 1950s Leiber and Stoller song, "Poison Ivy", which reached No. 7 in the UK Singles Chart. Their follow up "Da-a-a-nce" was written by Jez Bird and reached No. 12 in the charts. In the same year, they released the album Beat Boys in the Jet Age, which reached No. 28 on the UK Albums Chart. Living for Today is taken from that album and was written by Doug Sanders.
