A ★★★½ review of The J-Horror Virus (2023)

I deeply enjoyed the rise of J-horror in the late 1990s and 2000s, though I won’t deny I was very much a tourist of the subgenre. I’ve seen just about all of the big ones and a couple of the lesser-known entries, but on the whole it’s still a section of the horror genre I have room to grow my knowledge in. That makes me a perfect target for The J-Horror Virus. This documentary by Sarah Appleton and Jasper Sharp runs down the history of the subgenre’s rise with interviews from some of its key figures.
