A long time ago there was a statewide LGBTQ newspaper in North Carolina called The Front Page.

I liked the attitude of the guy who ran it.

He said that he was always seeing people say that they don't like the gay community here very much.

His response was, "but you ARE the gay community. You ARE!"

I liked that. It made me think it over. A bit Bette Davis to Joan Crawford like.

How could the global financial instability affect plans for NatACT First's imminent budget?

"They may have to relax their fiscal constraints and allow a bit more government money into the economy ... They're wary of borrowing more to do that. But then you'd have to look at it in a context ... where probably governments around the world are having to do this sort of thing."

Minister Matt Doocey fronts on Government's plans for mental health - The Front Page

It’s no secret New Zealand is suffering a major mental health crisis.  Many people, including teens and children, often wait weeks to see someone when they seek help.  It's so dire, a survey of those at the coal face of the crisis describes a system that’s under pressure, under-resourced, and under-delivering for New Zealanders.  So, is there hope on the horizon with the coalition Government’s addition of a specialised mental health portfolio?  Today on The Front Page, Mental Health Minister Matt Doocey is with us to discuss what moves are being made to make sure help’s there when we need it.  Follow The Front Page on iHeartRadio, Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts. Great news for ADHDers in Aotearoa;

"Pharmac is now funding a new medicine and has removed renewal criteria for ADHD treatments."

Until recently, people taking ADHD medication have had to pay hundreds or thousands of dollars every 2 years for a medication review. Pharmac is now trusting GPs to do this for their patients, saving hundreds of hours of psychiatrists' time every year.

How Meta's latest policy on political content could change the game for democracy - The Front Page

A new social media policy is being described as having a chilling effect on politics, and by extension the health of democracy. Meta, the global behemoth that owns Facebook and Instagram, is putting a stranglehold on recommendations in user feeds that contain political content. The move, signalled in February, applies to Instagram and Threads, and will eventually extend to Facebook. Today on The Front Page, Senior writer Derek Cheng joins us to look at what’s happening, why it’s happening, and how it changes the game for politicians. Follow The Front Page on iHeartRadio, Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts. "To start, you need a permit to import firearms and any gun retailer needs to keep records of who they've sold gun to. However, if I then buy a gun and sell it to somebody else, I don't need to keep records of that transaction. All I need to say is that they showed me their firearms licence. This is called straw-buying, and it's how lots of firearms have ended up in criminal hands."

Are NZ's gangs becoming more violent? - The Front Page

Gangs. Patches. And 501 deportees. These issues cause fierce debate across Aotearoa. But how much of what we hear is true? And what should the police and Government be doing to address these problems?  To help answer these questions, Damien speaks to NZ Herald investigative reporter Jared Savage, who this week reported on Operation Cobalt, the Government’s latest move to take on gangs. But #TheFrontPage #podcast discussion of Immigration Visas, between Lincoln Tan and Damien Venuto, is a must listen, albeit immensely sad exploration of things

And, like so many other problem areas, the Govt seems really slow to act for something that is ruining people's lives
