Mark and MarieContinuing the 2008 trip to China, a short walk from Tiananmen Square brought us to the Forbidden City which we walked the length of with our guide pointing out the halls and palaces along the way. Pictured is one of a pair of bronze lion sculptures guarding the Gate of Supreme Harmony. The lion cub under the paw symbolises abundant offspring for the emperor and indicates this lion is female. The lion on the other side had a globe under its paw, and was male, signifying rule over the world.
