I have one more week left to enjoy being the same age that Neil Armstrong was when he stepped out onto the moon.
Haven't managed to get face to face with the moon this year but I am going to see #TheFieryFurnaces this Friday in Brussels and two days later #DeryaYildirim in Antwerp, which I reckon will be better anyway
Friedberger siblings Eleanor and Matthew burned bright as The Fiery Furnaces in the '00s with their layered music that was both sophisticated and catchy, intense and tuneful, and endlessly fascinating all at the same time.

One of the more ambitious and adventurous indie rock bands to have come out of the '00s, The Fiery Furnaces are the brother/sister duo Matthew and Eleanor Friedberger, who released six studio albums between 2003 and 2009, each one crammed with songs and each song crammed with ideas, Then they went on an extended hiatus until 2021. The music on these albums was challenging in the best sense: they were filled with sudden shifts that introduce a catchy melody in the midst of another one, or a totally new groove, or just disrupted the melodic flow to create fractured segments. Their songs were highbrow collages of down to earth pop pieces stitched together with Eleanor Friedberger's acrobatic and melodious speak-sing vocals. As a band, they constantly changed the whole feel and texture of their songs in live performances, reconstructed each tune with a different take, as captured in their 2008 live album, Remember.
Another contender that isn't quite in the top 3 -- an album of #TheFieryFurnaces covering their own songs.
Not many bands could do this, but The Fiery Furnaces have a history of taking apart and reworking their songs for live shows -- the first time I saw them, at Leeds Festival around 2005, it appeared that they had played a single 30 minute song.
To spice things up, this is just pure synths. Electric guitars are old fashioned.
