Attached is a short read from Professor Jenny Hocking, the person whose unrelenting work on The Dismissal led to the release of the ‘Palace Letters’ (amongst other things).

The article is worth a read.

A calculated plot, an ambush, a coup

Five decades on from the dismissal of the Whitlam government, Australia is seeing a notable shift in the narrative that now recognises it as a calculated coup, and an assault on the conventions of government.

Pearls and Irritations
This is the Savva interview we saw at #TheDismissal gig on Tuesday at MoAD. Serious in parts, but also eye-popping and hilarious. He's getting old, but it's still vintage PJK. ❤️

One of yesterday's best panel discussions at #TheDismissal was with Kerr's Aide De Camp and the 3 men who were at Gov House to be 'interviewed' for his replacement. Hilarious, with all the comings and goings and drama at Gov House that lunchtime. Anyhoo, I noticed 2 of the current Aides De Camp in the audience, which prompted me to find out if the other one (who was elsewhere with the GG) was female.... she is! Which means Sam Mostyn has chosen 3 women ADCs, and one is a woman of colour. 👏
A little the worse for wear after a very big day yesterday at #TheDismissal. Couldn't sleep, a bit overwhelmed with the yugeness of the event, all the famous faces.... and the FIFTY years (really?? I still feel 20 in my head). Off to landcare on this beautiful morning then maybe home for a nap.
The day that was. Earlier start. Coffee. FaceTime call with client. Work (WFH). Lunch. To #HotDesk. More work. Read RSS. Blog posts. Two hour walk. Tea. Stream doco re #TheDismissal since it was fifty years ago today. Read. To come: lights out #OnlineJournal

Well it has been 1975 all day today in the national capital, and millenials have suddenly heard of the Dismissal.
What they fail to appreciate is that it has actually been 1975 since 1975 in Canberra.

Meanwhile, way up in the Deep North they're not having that 1975 Canberra nonsense. They do time warps in style. At Julia Creek railway station it is still 1968.

Freezing our tits off waiting for a bus home. What a day though. #TheDismissal
Was just interviewed on the ABC, Gold Coast, ha! #TheDismissal

Today is the 50th anniversary of #TheDismissal in Australia - when our democratically elected Prime Minister (the leader of our country) was removed from office by the conniving conservative party, allegedly with the CIA's involvement.

I wasn't born yet so I have no memories of that time to share, but every time I read about what happened... it makes me furious. All we can do now is laugh as the conservative party falls further into obscurity by embracing the far-right and watch the Teals take up the mantle of "moderates".
