I precedenti giudiziari

Bill Cosby sentenced: $19 million for sexual assault

AGI - A new verdict shines a spotlight on one of the most controversial cases in American entertainment. A California court on Monday ordered Bill Cosby to pay over $19 million in damages to a woman who accused him of sexual assault.

A decision that further aggravates the actor’s position
The decision, made in civil court after three days of deliberations, further complicates the position of the 88-year-old actor, who has already been accused by dozens of women of predatory behavior.

The victim’s testimony
During the trial, held in Santa Monica, the testimony of Donna Motsinger, now 84 years old, emerged. The woman stated that she had been drugged in 1972, when Cosby allegedly poured a substance into her wine glass presented as a simple aspirin.

After losing consciousness, the woman — then a waitress — recounted waking up at home, dressed only in underwear. According to the accusation, she was aware of having been drugged and sexually assaulted.

Previous judicial rulings
The case fits into a judicial landscape already marked by previous civil convictions. In the same court – AFP recalls – in 2022, a jury ruled that Cosby had to pay $500,000 to Judy Huth, acknowledging an assault that occurred in 1975 when the girl was 16 years old.

From fame to fall
A definitive collapse for the former television icon, long nicknamed “the father of America” for his role in the series The Cosby Show, which aired between 1984 and 1992.

In 2018, the actor was incarcerated in Pennsylvania for another case of sexual assault, before being released in 2021 after the annulment of the conviction for a procedural defect.
