After weeks of criticism from #FirstNations leaders, the federal government has amended its major projects bill to withdraw the power it gave cabinet to sidestep the #IndianAct.

The #Liberal government’s controversial legislation, which would allow cabinet to quickly grant federal approvals for big industrial projects like mines, ports and pipelines, sailed through committee in the early hours of Thursday.

A #UnitedStates federal jury has convicted a #Quebec man of running a 20-year #MailFraud scheme that stole more than US$175 million.

#PatriceRunner, 57, was convicted in a #NewYork District Court last week on 14 charges, including conspiracy to commit mail fraud and #WireFraud, mail fraud and #conspiracy to commit #MoneyLaundering.
