I love Catherine Tate as an actress and thought this movie would be a great addition to my collection. I also like Robert Pattinson and it became a two for one thing.
I really enjoyed this movie. It was funny, truthful and blunt. I enjoyed the story, cried even, and really liked how well put together it was.

I love Catherine Tate as an actress and thought this movie would be a great addition to my collection. I also like Robert Pattinson and it became a two for one thing.

The story is about a dysfunctional, multigenerational family of women. Middle-aged Karen is stressed and frustrated, struggling to care for both a teenage daughter and mother with Alzheimer's. She has a bit of an identity crisis when she discovers a long-kept secret. Her bright but hormonal daughter, Charlotte, has her own crisis when she discovers that she's pregnant about the same time her dead-beat boyfriend dumps her. Enter Daniel (Robert Pattinson), a new student and doctor's son, who tries to support her in his own nerdy way. Karen strikes out at both her mother and daughter in bitter disappointment, but all the turmoil serves to teach them all some important lessons about love, family, and being a mother. I laughed and had tears...

The man in Queen Mum who wears “tusks” of tissue up his nostrils was someone I spotted at a B&B years ago, and in the novel I’ve just finished, the middle-aged mother figure is obsessed with water voles in the same way I am. So enjoyable I would watch it when I feel happy or sad.
Actors bring this to life with just enough comedy to counteract the drama, all of them are perfectly cast from ann reids babyloving gran to the selfish ex husbands ineptness at fatherhood so funny when he laid the bet regarding the sex of the newborn then to take the money from Daniel, grief for the neglected child who could have been saved.
