Day 6: A drama I dropped in 2025 Officially this goes to #TheAtypicalFamily. Despite me enjoying superhero stuff, I just couldn’t get very far. Also #StudyGroup, maybe I’ll revisit it. Unofficially, #DynamiteKiss might qualify for a dropped drama, but I haven’t decided that yet. #EYDC2025

05-Feb : Most memorable child actor (under 13)?

There were so many great child actors this year. (A lot of we-were-destined because we knew each other as kids stories!)

The stand out for me was Park So Yi from "The Atypical Family." She played a girl who had her 13th birthday in the series, but she was actually 11/barely 12 when filming.

The role was a difficult & heart-breaking one and she portrayed the character beautifully with so much character growth.

Here's a wonderful article about her acting in the series - there are SPOILERS in the article: https://www.k-ennews.com/news/articleView.html?idxno=1871

The Atypical Family - REWATCH
(2024 - Netflix 12 1:10 eps)

Even better the 2nd time around!

A dysfunctional family of superheroes who have lost their powers due to modern mental health problems meets a woman who surprises them all & things begin to change.

I was able to pick up on the small clues this time around & a big theme hit me differently. A family that can see the past & the future can't begin to see what's right in front of them in the present. Another idea I liked was that "an ending is a beginning."

Stellar acting, wonderful chemistry, great story, & meaningful cinematography definitely made the rewatch worth it!

Attached: 1 image #kDrama The Atypical Family (2024 - Netflix, 12 1:10 eps) An original, well-written, well-acted, compelling story with meaning makes this one of the best of 2024 (& that's a high bar). A family of superheroes has fallen due to modern afflictions. A woman appears in their lives & despite an awful start, becomes a ray of hope. The father-daughter relationship is so moving. Park So Yi at 12 was amazing. The side stories all fold beautifully into the themes of greed-destroys-all & your-perception-can-change-fate that run through the drama. The use of cinematography as a story-telling element was on-point & gorgeous. Chemistry was stellar in all relationships. I want to go on & on, but I don't think I can say more without spoilers. Excellent drama! https://mydramalist.com/748581-although-i-am-not-a-hero #TheAtypicalFamily #νžˆμ–΄λ‘œλŠ”μ•„λ‹™λ‹ˆλ‹€λ§Œ #JangKiYong #μž₯기용 #ChunWooHee #천우희 #WhooshReview

2024 End of the Year Drama Challenge

Day 23 - An innovative drama you watched in 2024?

Just to check myself, I started a rewatch of "The Atypical Family." Aside from the innovative story that looks at being overweight, depression, alcoholism, & other societal problems, the directing & editing were unique.

Although many dramas have gorgeous cinematography, & many also use lighting, symbolism, music, sound, framing, color, focus & more to help tell the story, "The Atypical Family" rose above & used it all to clarify what exactly is happening in the scene. The emotions of the characters are often reflected in their surroundings.

It uses the trick of washing out the background to almost grayscale to indicate time travel, but you notice little pops of color in things that have meaning to the characters.

I'm noticing even more of this (because I'm watching for it now) in the 1st 2 episodes of the rewatch.

#Day17 Best actor of 2024

Jang Ki-Yong is the actor who surprised me the most this year. I didn't think he could pull a role like the one in #TheAtypicalFamily
He had always played the alpha male before. Strong, confident and powerful. In that drama he becomes a mess of a man. An alcoholic negligent father, emotionally unavailable and rude to every other human being.

I really liked it too - I think it's one of my favorites. Unusual to have such a change of feelings about characters & the story was unique in so many ways.
