When I heard The Association at the University of Maine, circa 1967, the band gave a much more finished performance than on the live cut on the Monterey Pop Festival box set. At UMO, Kirkman sang, played flute and, on a grander number, flugelhorn; and he took part in humor in-between songs and MCed the show.

I once wrote and published a biography, in Web pages online, of the nineteenth century music group, the Alleghanians. In it, I made use of one of the Association's best known song titles, "Along Comes Mary."
