Oh! Your user name would fit with cultural perfection in the Teixcalaan universe (the 'Ten Million Explosions).

An alien armada lurks on the edges of Teixcalaanli space. No one can communicate with it, no one can destroy it.

In a desperate attempt at diplomacy with the mysterious invaders, the fleet captain has sent for a diplomatic envoy.

Their failure will guarantee millions of deaths.Their success might prevent Teixcalaan’s destruction. Or it might create something far stranger.

I have finished reading A Memory Called Empire by Arkady Martine.

This is a fantastic book. I'm not typically a big fan of politics and diplomacy in stories, but wrapping the whole thing in a murder mystery I think really helped with the onboarding. The most fascinating facet has to be the cultural.

Strong recommendation.

I think if this book had been described to me as being largely diplomacy and politics, I might have passed on it. And it does feature a lot of that, but by wrapping it in a murder mystery it becomes more interesting to me.

Feels like Arkady Martine is good at tipping their hand to the reader just before the protagonist makes some new connection. So you're never entirely confused by that new connection, nor frustrated with it taking too long.

Just finished A Desolation Called Peace by Arkady Martine.

What a fantastic read!

Too bad this seems to conclude the Teixcalaan series. The Teixcalaan universe is so rich and interesting, I'd love to read more about it. I feel slightly upset about having to say goodbye so soon.

On the plus side: I'm sure whatever Arkady Martine comes up with next, will be fascinating too.

Just finished the second book of the #Teixcalaan series by @ArkadyMartine and what a ride it's been!

Very pleased to have gotten this recommendation from the much-missed darth of legend...

Finished #TheExpanse books finally last night after ploughing through them for the last 12 months or so.

If you're into massive space operas and #scifi epics, they are amazing. The ending was perfect and a fitting tribute to the Roci and it's crew.

For sheer scale, the best #scifi series I've read (and I've read my fair share, only really just pipping the #Teixcalaan duology by the wonderful @ArkadyMartine).

Am reading the #Teixcalaan series by @ArkadyMartine and am struck over and over at the extraordinary poetry of the prose:
"Mahit followed her easily, thinking of flowers that turn towards sunlight and less pleasant tropisms- gravity wells ..."

It's not just the phrase, it's the setting it grew out of.
This is writing that was creation revisited in order to dress to perfection.

I strongly recommend this series.
