Yeah, I know #UnderwaterScooters, but I know a way to go even faster if you don't mind weight and bulkyness:

  • Let it literally blow through a 200-300bar compressed air tank.
    • OFC that thing will be too fast to hang on and it's noise will scare off all the aquatic lifeforms, so don't do that.
    • And you can seriously injure yourself.

But in theory if one were to make it like a standard-sized, 533mm torpedo to lie inside, then the only limit would be cavitation, the output nozzle and amount of air one can push through.

  • But bad ideas aside, there's a reason #electric motors are being used for any kind of underwater schooter.
    • And lets be honest, even an entry-level model from #seadoo is already fast and noisy, and the only difference in terms of professional models is that they are neutrally buoyant, quieter, have more torque and longer battery life.

So yeah, I did test-drove a seadoo underwater schooter and those are fun, tho granted one runs into the inevitable problem that even an Olympic pool is too short and any public pool is likely having visitors.

  • Unless you are in the open ocean or a professional diver hauling a shitton of #TechDiving gear with you that you can't just yeet to the surface with a liftbag (i.e. because you're diving in some disused Nokianite mine in Finland [not me OFC, but you get the idea!]), they totally make sense...
    • So outside of annoying snorklers harassing sea turtles and other wildlife, you only see professionals with either firearms or more scuba tanks than hands using an #ElectricScooter underwater...

Needless to say I wished I had some recreational diving submarine to start a dive...

  • Slowly flushing out of a torpedo tube in 40m depth.

Maybe #FabienCousteau has something like that as emergency evac setup on #ProteusStation?

En recycleur, le silence n’est pas une option, c’est une stratégie.
C’est lui qui nous permet d’entrer dans l’intimité du grand bleu.

On a rebreather, silence isn’t optional, it’s strategy.
It’s what allows us into the intimacy of the deep blue.

So #techdiving people, are Shearwater dive computers as great as the internet claims? Thinking about a Perdix AI, although it's probably more computer than this warm water rec diver will ever need. There don't seem to be many active display computers that are not also way more technical than I'll need in the forseeable future,
