URGENT – Stop Alberta's government from overriding the Charter of Rights

Alberta Premier Smith has used the Notwithstanding Clause to pass laws that erase rights and silence the courts.

Gil McGowan - head of the Alberta Federation for Labour and the Common Front has said - “I just want to make it really clear that if the government puts a gun to the head of the teachers and they’re not able to continue their strike, then we in the broader labour movement will stand where they’re not able to,”

Union leader: UCP has 'declared war' on labour movement, and the response will be severe

"We're looking at a wide range of possible actions."

Premier Smith says, “There is still time for the teachers to” … what? Capitulate to the province’s terms? The province hasn’t offered anything meaningfully different in months.

“The pre-condition is getting kids back into school” she says, admitting that the province isn’t negotiating in good faith, but has placed all their eggs in the basket of back-to-work legislation that tramples the most basic labour rights Canadians have fought hard to hold.

Back to work legislation?

How dare they.

You teachers out there who refuse, hats off to you. That is people power in action. To you, Jenny Yeremiy, for initiating a petition to recall the Minister of Education, hats off to you.

Support these folks, Alberta. They need us to rally behind them in person, with financial support, volunteering, whatever is within your capacity and means.

Now is not the time to give up, it's the time to double down.

Back-to-work legislation to end Alberta teachers’ strike coming Monday, says premier | CBC News

The Alberta government will table back-to-work legislation on Monday that seeks to end the provincewide teachers’ strike, Premier Danielle Smith said Thursday morning.

Hey Alberta, let’s not let the #TeacherStrike completely distract us from the ridiculous level of corruption, grifting, and conflicts of interest they’re covering up in #PublicHealth.

Every tech alternative, every private operator or provider they contract will end up costing us multiples of the same service provided within a robust public health system.

New Zealand is learning that lesson, and we should learn from their experience: $95 paid for a telehealth consultation, $20.45 for the same consultation in person

The #TeacherStrike is not an urban vs rural issue: students and teachers everywhere are being shafted by a government that simply doesn’t believe in basic social infrastructure like public schools.

One is six Albertans right now is a child not in school because the #UCP doesn’t want to fund education to a reasonable level, and this is true outside of major centres as much as in big cities.

Alberta Premier Marlaina Smith has announced a plan to put forth legislation forcing teachers to go back to work on October 27th 'if we do not get back to the next week'. The ATA were at the table, but your useless government rejected their proposals. Go fuck yourself Marlaina, teachers aren't machines you can just turn on whenever you please.
