Ready for the Tararuas, Owen (FR) was unable to do the Tongariro Alpine Crossing due to the fires in the central North Island. He did a full day yesterday from the Moturimu Whare and stayed overnight as my first through hiker for the season. Enjoy the hills and the Escarpment! #ta #teararoa

Today I took part in a river crossing course. It was held at #Wero whitewater park in Auckland, so not exactly a river, but definitely a water body with impressive flow.

The course is primarily aimed at people undertaking the Te Araroa Trail, but I think it's great for anyone thinking of doing more intrepid #tramps where river crossings could be part of it. I highly recommend it.

You learn about river hazards and safe ways to cross. Getting in the water and actually doing it helps you put the theory into practice, but also understand your own limits. Be prepared for you and your gear to get completely wet.

@teufen looking at the profile in order to stay within 30 days he has to make great progress today. The last bit contains some serious climbs.
It is a fantastic performance anyway.

A trek down Turakina Beach led us to a long road walk to Bulls. (The town, not the animal, though there were plenty of those too.)
