The statements mark the first time the Republican admin has offered specifics for when & how the #ReflectingPool may have been damaged after work on the project was substantially completed.

#Trump & other officials have repeatedly blamed, without evidence, unidentified vandals for peeling paint as well as a “350-foot gash” in the liner & other problems. Six people have been arrested, Trump said this week, without providing details.

The police report indicates damage to the pool, “including a caulk over the foam sealant that was cut with a sharp knife or razor & destruction of delaminating surface material,” Lands said. About 70 fence post tops also were thrown into the #ReflectingPool, he said.

The agency reported the June 9 incident to US #ParkPolice, said Frank Lands, deputy director of operations for the #NPS. Lands made the statement in a court document filed late Wednesday as part of a lawsuit filed by a nonprofit organization to halt the #Trump admin’s work on the project.

With no public accounting of the entire #Trump construction spree, a team of NYT reporters—Luke Broadwater, Marco Hernandez, Junho Lee & Elena Shao—set out to produce one. They found that the admin had mobilized at least $1.2 billion on no fewer than 18 major projects across the nation’s capital. Here’s everything they learned about their budgetary provenance.

Trump’s D.C. Renovation Projects Could Cost More Than $1 Billion

The cost of the president’s D.C. renovation projects could surpass $1 billion, with taxpayers and secret donors footing the bill.

„The U.S. Department of Defense has informed members of Congress that it may require nearly $80 billion in additional funding, with most of the money expected to cover costs associated with the recent conflict between the United States and Iran.“

Since pieces of peeling paint started floating to the water’s surface earlier this week, the #Interior Dept has not responded to questions about the paint & why the #ReflectingPool surface is separating.

#Trump blamed the damage on “disgraceful Vandalism,” an accusation he also made earlier this week. “Many additional people” were arrested, he said.

The Park Police did not immediately respond to a request for comment about the number of arrests.

#Trump said Saturday night that he was likely to drain the Lincoln Memorial’s #ReflectingPool again, as workers contend with paint peeling off its surface & algae blooming in the wake of his $14 million renovation.
Trump made his announcement, after what he said was a meeting with contractors…at Camp David….It comes 16 days after the govt began refilling the pool after the renovation that Trump said would result in clean water & “could last for 100 years.”

Trump likely to drain Reflecting Pool again, following peeling paint and algae

The president blamed “disgraceful Vandalism” for the damage and peeling paint, which emerged after workers spent days treating algae.

The Washington Post

“We’ve had some real problems with Vandalism at the beautiful Reflecting Pool,” #Trump posted on his social media site. “Just like three days ago, they destroyed the grass outside of the Pool, they’ve also done everything possible to hurt the inside surface that was just installed.” He offered no details to substantiate his claim.

Agencies responsible for law enforcement & upkeep on the #NationalMall — the #US #ParkPolice, #NationalParkService & #Interior Dept—did not comment.

Seriously? Such a dick.

#Trump tries to blame #ReflectingPool woes on “vandalism”, without offering substantiation as usual.

The paint is peeling from Washington’s Reflecting Pool after the renovation ordered by Trump, & he is now alleging that someone damaged it intentionally.

Trump tries to blame Reflecting Pool woes on vandalism

President Donald Trump claims the problems with the Reflecting Pool in Washington are due to vandalism. He offered no details to back that up in social media posts Friday night and Saturday, except to say there have been multiple arrests. David Hearn, a 67-year-old Bethesda, Maryland, man, said he stopped by the pool during a bike ride, touched a partially detached strip of paint in the water, and was arrested. He told The Associated Press he did not peel off paint. The president ordered the pool redone to get rid of algae that’s plagued it for more than 100 years. But the algae came back.
