This is a very manecured place. It's part golf course to keep the Tesla and Corvette drivers busy and off of the highways during the day, but if you walk out far enough, you can still find some rustic rather untouched wilderness, my kinda stuff.

I did end up walking out of the woods and finding Mallard lake right in front of me and beyond it, part of the golf course itself, but it was a pleasant surprise to walk out of the woods after half a mile of walking and "BEHOLD... LAKE".

Oh yeah and happy first post on the new instance. Holla back y'all, my ego needs it.

NJO Muziekzomer dit jaar zonder Reinbert de Leeuw

Op 1 augustus begint de NJO Muziekzomer, met ruim 65 concerten op bijzondere locaties. Young artist in residence is de pianiste Andrea Vasi, en composer in residence is Rob Zuidam. Van hem worden verschillende werken uitgevoerd, waaronder zijn nieuwste opera A Love Unsung, die hij componeerde voor het Stolz Kwartet. Opmerkelijke detail: een zanger of zangeres ontbreekt, de ‘opera’ is geheel instrumentaal.

De NJO Muziekzomer en de daaraan gekoppelde NJO Summer Academy ontstond in 2001. Ruim twee weken lang worden muziekvakstudenten uit heel de wereld door internationaal vermaarde musici ingewijd in de geheimen van nieuwe, oude, of klassieke muziek. Zij krijgen tevens de gelegenheid het geleerde in praktijk te brengen in ensembles en orkesten en doen zo in korte tijd veel waardevolle praktijkervaring op.

De NJO Summer Academy werd in 2001 door Reinbert de Leeuw en Arthur van Dijk opgezet, zoals te lezen in mijn biografie Reinbert de Leeuw: mens of melodie. De Leeuw was geïnspireerd door zijn werk aan de Amerikaanse zomerschool van het Boston Symphony Orchestra in Tanglewood en de NJO Summer Academy werd naar dat voorbeeld opgericht. Opmerkelijk is dat De Leeuw dit jaar zelf niet van de partij is. Ik schreef hierover voor Cultuurpers.

Zoals in mijn vorige blog gemeld, is Reinbert de Leeuw op zondag 10 augustus te gast in het televisieprogramma VPRO Zomergasten. Ik heb deze week het artikel ingeleverd dat ik schreef op verzoek van de VARA Gids, het zal verschijnen in de gids van 29 juli a.s.

Zij verzorgt lezingen en inleidingen voor onder andere het Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest en schrijft artikelen en recensies voor binnen- en buitenlandse tijdschriften en websites. In 2018 publiceerde zij Een os op het dak: moderne muziek na 1900 in vogelvlucht. ‘Een monument voor een culturele grootheid’ Het Parool ‘De ideale biograaf’ ‘Kennis van zaken en discreet’ Elsevier ‘Derks heeft haar ondoorgrondelijke onderwerp hart en ziel gegeven’ Trouw ‘Goede, evenwichtige biografie. Ook te lezen als een panorama van het Nederlandse muziekleven in de 20e eeuw’ de Volkskrant Reinbert de Leeuw was decennialang een spil in het Nederlandse muziekleven. Met zijn ultratrage uitvoeringen van pianowerken van Satie veroverde hij de populaire hitlijsten, als ‘Notenkraker’ richtte hij zich tegen de gevestigde orde en als dirigent van het mede door hem opgerichte Schönberg Ensemble ontsloot hij muziek van eigentijdse componisten voor een groot publiek. Hij gold als de belangrijkste grondlegger van de internationaal vermaarde Nederlandse ensemblecultuur en was een onvermoeibaar inspirator voor jong en oud. Een maand voor zijn dood trad hij voor het laatst op.

Tanglewood Park - Clemmons, NC - 11/20/25

HORSES! I wasn't expecting horses. I hadn't been here in more than 20 years, though so, I'm not sure what I expected. As usual, on Thursdays, I have the timing advantage for sunrises due to working third shift, and as I was FINALLY gifted a cloudy day after an endless three-week sea of blankness every morning, I got a nice one.

The park itself is nice, Mallard Lake was coned off, but people were driving down there anyway. I didn't feel like I had the energy left after 10 hours of work and 3 hours of walking around this place to explore a lake so I left it for another day.

My leg still bothers me, and I had to fight to get around this place a bit. I'm taking Friday to rest before the next trip out Saturday. Enjoy these for now.

Mounted a K&K Pure Bass 4-string pickup into my #Tanglewood Acoustic #Bass yesterday - the one that was built in always had problems to pick up the 4 strings equally. Easily done, I kept the existing pickup as it is.

On the image you see the old system: blue wire from the piezo going to the preamp, light grey preamp to plug and red/black from battery to preamp.

The new system are the two piezos glued in with the black wires going to the new plug I put in.

Great sound, better than the original and this one doesn’t need a preamp with battery.

Taking it slowly and carefully the whole job was done in two hours

A cute minimalist puzzle/action platformer where you play as a fox and grab temporary powers to access the path to the next level

+Very impressed by the pixelart and the fact it's an actual genesis game
+Game is short and didn't overstay its novelty
+Really liked the simple but effective story told without any text
-Enemies sprite look pretty bad
-Too many trial and error, blind jumps and leap of faiths but at least they rarely punish you

The creator of #Tanglewood is related to the gaming industry by profession and, according to his own statements, simply wanted to create a game for a retro console where he could give free reign to his own creativity. The game, which began as a Kickstarter project, is undoubtedly technically sophisticated, and the credits at the end testify to the many other contributors who helped Matt Philips complete it.
