Fascinating story. Like most people (I think), I'd always assumed the bodhrán (drum used in Irish traditional music) was some sort of ancient musical instrument.
Turns out its origins don't go back further than a couple of centuries and it only really became established in its current form after it was used at the Abbey Theatre in 1959.
