#StopPressGirl, the next choice to clear out of the TiVo, was preceded by a content warning about language that some viewers might find offensive.

As the opening credits were rolling, my mind was boggling. What on Earth could be offensive about a 1949 British comedy? They are notoriously tame (except for #PassportToPimlico).

I thought that it might be #racism against Scotland, given the presence of #GordonJackson, and indeed there was one comment about Scottish people and one about Chinese.

But it was dwarfed by the #sexism. The male characters, and indeed the premise, were patronizing and chauvinistic to an extent that would have had people of the 1970s bloody annoyed; & there were some derogatory terms for women and their places in society that luckily wouldn't be recognized much today.

So credit to #TalkingPicturesTV for the warning, then. Shame on all of the IMDB reviewers for not spotting this. And a recommendation to give this a miss to everyone else. It only has 2 gags.

Attention attention episode 2 of #TheOmegaFactor is on #TalkingPicturesTV at 9.05 UK time which means I might start squawking about it here exactly one hour later, especially as I have finally got my main laptop back from Boulanger

I don't know how I'd have got through the week otherwise. No thanks to the THREE 1998
#TopOfThePops episodes we are expected to sit through tonight, what are the schedulers thinking? One quaff of that emetic vintage is more than enough
Attention viewers of elderly Friday-night television! After a very long stint of Doomwatch, this weekend Talking Pictures TV began with deathless 70s psychic/occult/conspiracy series The Omega Factor. This is one of my very favourite TV series ever, and I'm pleased to report that the first episode has lost nothing of its seedy, sombre tension with repeat viewings. The night-time outdoor location shooting is quite unusual for the time, and although the indoor sets boast a lot of typically 70s decor of the kind cult TV fans love, several have an older, more timeless darkness about them. And the first few moments of Ganzfeld-chamber dream sequence are SO WEIRD, especially for a first episode.

I also want to note that main man James Hazeldine (playing a journalist whose life disintegrates after he begins to....remember stuff) is really quite hot in a scary 70s owl-man kind of way. Yes, they have him in scratchy grey wool V-necks and a horrendous oatmeal puffy anorak for too much of the show, but STICK WITH IT because towards the end they finally get him into this fantastic funeral outfit and he looks the absolute bomb. Also an excellent actor but whatevz

Also pleased to see that at least for this first ep TalkingPictures have got hold of a decent copy. Some of the Doomwatches were clearly nicked off Youtube or even more suspicious sources but this was a classy viewing experience. Classier than Hazeldine's gorgeous graveside gear? No. But easily classy enough for me.

Well broadly speaking I very much enjoyed starting the day with the Look At Life episode about port radar on #TalkingPicturesTV (and the massive anchors!), but the way each episode of the venerable 60s documentary series ends with an onscreen exhortation to TAKE A LOOK AT LIFE is a bit intense.

Like, you can't make me mate. I would much, much rather take a look at literally anything other than life right now, and it's a shame they didn't have content warnings for that kind of messaging back in Yesteryear.

Maybe they could do a hip edgy reboot called Look At The Absolute Bleeding State of Your Life

"Jenny Syde" ?! WTF? That's never someone's real name, surely.

Calling all fellow Doctor Who nerds.
I am watching The Salvage Gang (1958) on #TPTV and so far have spotted three #DoctorWho connections:
(1) Frazer Hines (Kim)
(2) Roberta Tovey's Dad, George (Alf)
(3) In one scene, a very prominent Police Box.
Have I missed any others?

Well, that was weird - I've just seen Stuart Damon on The #WheelTappers on #TPTV - *singing* ?! (Well, sort of).
Did William Gaunt ride a unicycle?
Did Alexanra Bastedo play the spoons?

One of the best things about watching old repeats of Wheel-Tappers on #TPTV is spotting the stupidest 1970s hair styles. 🙂

This has to be the lowest budget #TV 'production' of all time.
Dear Noel Cronin, Please stop it immediately or I may have to send Mike some 'special' biscuits.
Thanks.
