This was a bonus sample from the Eco-Cha tea club. Reading the label, "Gardenia Flower Oolong Tea", I wasn't sure if it was Oolong tea with gardenia scent characteristics or if it was Oolong tea scented with gardenia flowers. Opening the bag, it is very obvious that this is tea scented with gardenia flowers. Pleasant enough, if you like flowers in your tea, but not something I would search out.

Dongfang Meiren Cha, or Eastern Beauty Oolong Tea, is a Taiwanese bug bitten tea. A leafhopper called the "tea jassid" is prevalent in the areas where this tea is grown and actually encouraged on the tea plants used to produce the tea. The character of the tea itself is more similar to oxidized styles of Fujian White tea than to other Oolong tea. Dried stonefruit scent, light sweet flavor, and little to no bitterness or astringency even when pushed or overdosed. This is a summer 2020 Dongfang Meiren from Mud and Leaves.

I've tried a few tea clubs and in terms of quality and quantity for the price, there are few better deals than the one from Eco-Cha Teas. On the other hand, if you drink anything other than their Taiwanese teas from the club, you might end up with a backlog. This is an excellent 2020 Dong Ding Oolong from the Eco-Cha Tea Club.
