Been spending so much time photographing around Mt Rainier & Chinook pass I dont know where to begin my mountain posts. Caught a few sunsets, a sunrise and night shots; heres a few splitboard moments from Saturday. Ive never spent so much time in a national park, between work & free time, I'll be able to observe & share quite a bit about the area. Dialing in some natural history and learning more about how the Cordilleran Ice Sheet helped shape how we define the Cascadia landscape. Mountains support such incredibly diverse ecosystems, Im excited to learn more to share. If you have questions or know of cool resources to learn from, Id love to hear them!

Found myself a new creative area to explore, calling it Tahoma Time, finding the views in front of these shots. Here is a few time lapses I shot over the weekend from Naches Peak, just above Chinook Pass in Washington state viewing the East side of Mt Rainier or as some say Tahoma. A name change has been in some recent conversations, since its becoming more widely known that Peter Rainier, who the mountain is currently named after never set foot in the West Coast. And to make matters more complicated, the only time he set foot in the US was to fight in the American Revolutionary War against the Americans. Tahoma or sometimes Tacoma & other variations of those pronunciations were how many local Indigenous peoples referred to it meaning "snow covered mountain".

The East side holds the largest surface area, about 4.3 sq mi / 11 km2, of any glacier in the contiguous United States. Winds on the summit that day were estimated to be around 60mph/100kmh which created this opportunity to witness swirling clouds above the peak. Where I was perched was mostly calm & warm until later that evening when wetter weather quickly blew in. While taking in the scene I noticed how much hiking opportunity there is along the ridges. Will have much more to explore this summer!
