Why is this completely unlike the #SafeStreets projects proposed by #trafficEngineers? Neighborhood block party for Parking Day and opening of a new parklet by the cupcake shop. I managed to get zero photos of the official parklet, but got one of a student-designed and built temporary one. We really wanted to set up a mini parklet on our block but the approval process (described as “streamlined” by the city) involves a lengthy permitting process and something like $700 in fees. Anyway, it was a nice celebration! #TacticalUrbanism #StreetsAreForPeople

So when I was in Seattle last month, I was walking with my 13yo through NE Seattle and pointing out all the places I had done #TacticalUrbanism projects (some officially sanctioned, but a lot that weren't). At some point, I explained how few cops were around compared to where we live in NYC (*cough* police state *cough*), and how much easier it was to do illegal stuff in Seattle compared to NYC. He kind of stared at me and said, "Umm.. great parenting, Dad!" 🤷
